Posted 21st July 2006 21:09 | | | hello troops am just after installing windows and all my games and patches + updates, i do this every 2 months because my computer runs slow anyway is there a program out there that can save all this so next time i just put the disc in and all my stuff is there. I have just tried nti backup 3 and on my 3rd disc it crashes any other ones out there thats good, cheers lads again |
| Posted 21st July 2006 21:31 | | | I use Norton Ghost. I make an image the PC after installing Windows, then another after installing drivers, service packs etc. Then, I do regular backups. I don't need to reinstall the OS etc - Just backup any data I need, restore the most recent working ghost image and then copy over the data. Voila, less hassle and a health OS too

| Posted 21st July 2006 21:53 | | | | Oh, no horrible! GoBack works on the priciple of taking snapshots of your hard disk, but it does really weird things and I've yet to come across a PC that was successfully recovered using GoBack. At least with Ghost you can store your images on CD/DVD or another HDD making recover so much easier. Using Ghost explorer you can browse and extract info from your images too. The great thing about ghost is if you create a book disk you can image your disk 'outside' of Windows. Worth every penny especially if you need to do recovery as often as you say (and isn't that more expensive than GoBack). HTH

| Posted 22nd July 2006 18:29 | | | Hey guys,
This is kinda related. I met this guy on a forum and a little while ago he sent me this malicious app, which is not being picked up by any virus scanner there is.
That's because technically it's not a virus, just a method that executes a reboot function, while trying to look like something else. That's it, no other damage is done.
I got in touch with this guy, letting him know what I think of him. He told me that he also made a version that deletes a lot of files and prevents rebooting in the process. A virus basically. He was also particularly proud of creating a bunch of keyloggers that he says that he "gotten lots of passwords from that".
Anyone know what I can do to make his life miserable? I was thinking of contacting Microsoft to get them to do an IP trace next time he logs into his MSN account (I know his Hotmail address and the town he lives in).
