Weighing in at a massive 2GB, I set my machine to download this last night - can't wait to give it a go tonight

Well its graphically superb - even on my lowly 7800gtx so this can only mean good things when UT3 is released.

The start is a little HL / HL2 influenced (which is no bad thing as they still stand as classic single player FPS) but the story line is intruiging.  I completed the demo (not hard, its very, very short) but can't wait to go back and have another go

I was quite impressed with this demo so I've ordered my copy of the game. Just waiting for it to be dropped through the letterbox.

I'm certainly enjoying this game. Actually, I'd go as far as saying it is more of an interactive movie. You certainly feel that you are part of whatever is going on and that everything you do has a purpose. You're not just shooting and killing things to progress in the game, you're attempting to stay alive by any means possible. This is definitely a game you need to play in the dark with 5.1 surround sound. The water and sound affects can be quite disorientating especially when you are low on ammo or health and are trying to make your way round a particular nasty looking bad guy only to find yourself running around like a lost puppy in search of a means of escape.

What did it for me though was a moment yesterday where I practically jumped out of my seat. This game is very atmospheric: There I am having cleared out a room searching for spoils. I crouched down to search a bin I'd knocked over. The lights flicker momentarily. I swivel round, nothing there. A brief flash of light a silhouette appears morphing in to a real ugly mamma. In that split second of recognition I stare deep in to his eyes (or at least where his eye sockets used to be) and I hear myself say out loud "****!" before instinctively letting off two shotgun rounds in to his face as he looms over me with his wrench in hand.

So much for the zap 'em and whack 'em approach.

Sounds great

I remember my first moment like that . . . I was playing the original Tomb Raider on the PS.  It was the first level, and the music was building to a climax, I knew something was coming but what?  Then two wolves appeared out of nowhere and I jumped out of my seat!!

Typing this reminded me of another one, this time in Black and White.  A minor easter egg was triggered when I was playing very late at night, and the game only went and whispered my name!!  Apparently, Lionhead had recorded a load of whispered names and the game looked through your HD for any trace so it could trigger the easter egg . . . spooky!

I love moments like that
