Posted 20th December 2003 14:02 | | | O.k. I've been uhming and arghing about getting around to building a mod for Neverwinter Nights as some of the mods I have played are to be honest, awfull. I have a story semi sketched out and some of the locations involved in the game. I am getting the rest of the source books I need for Xmas. So far it is costing me close to £200 just to make sure everything is authentic and not just thrown together from bits lifted from the main program. When I have finished the story arc I will need a hand in building the levels and a hand with some of the code, espically the introduction parts and between chapters and scene changes. Don't get me wrong, this isn't going to be a short module, this is going to be as big an epic that I can think up, nearly as big as the original game. If anyone is intrested let me know on here if you want to help and in what capacity.
Cheers

| Posted 21st December 2003 03:29 | | | Hey Batman,
I'd be glad to help with a NWN mod. I can do level design, item customization, plot help, pretty much anything. Just tell me what you need to be done - I love making maps!
Can you give us a little more info on the story, plot, world, etc?

| Posted 22nd December 2003 12:20 | | | Still waiting for more source books to turn up but basically set in Silver Marches, Icewind Dale (love the dales and maybe a trip to Underdark and the Planes. Basic quest for identity and 2 halfs of an amulet. LOTS of subquests and may have to be done in 4-5 chapters. I'm just fed up with mods for NWN that have no substance, just dungeon crawling and what ever monsters they can throw at you. There will be 2 versions, normal and epic as a lot of people are upto epic level now so i am making sure all the monsters are correct for epic level and are in the right locations (costing a fortune so far). When I have basic locals, traps, encounters laid out I will post more info, but this will be a big mod so don't get involved unless you are serious. Hopefully we can build something that will please a lot of people who will want us to make another one [ ].
Cheers

Maybe we should change the plot and call it "Hunt for the Fluffmeister"[ ]

| Posted 22nd December 2003 13:40 | | | Hiya, been a while since I way last on the forums but it has been manic at work. People just don't seem to understand that fixing a broke PC so the kiddies can play their xmas presents shouldn't be left to the last minute. Oh well, on the plus side I'm getting paid
Right, back on topic. I haven't modded (if that is the correct term) since my Unreal days. However, that doesn't mean I'm useless I quite honestly don't have the time to learn how to mod in NWN. But, I am willing to serve the GS modding community in other ways:
I'll glady do some level beta testing. I'm quite creative so if you want a hand in looking at the story element I'm sure I can pick a few holes here, suggest a sub quest there... Well you get the picture. I'm good at breaking stuff, so if you give me something incomplete or buggy I'm sure I can help find those holes that need patching up.
Well, if you require my services you know how to get hold of me.
P.S. If you have already sketched out the plot could you send me a rough (cut-down-version if needs be) outline of the story and characters so I can get the old grey matter thinking.

| Posted 23rd December 2003 01:41 | | | Sounds cool, Batman. I'm mainly good in the trigger area, but I can come up with plot, or beta test also. Just tell me if you need me to do something, and I'll give it a shot. I, like Max, am good at breaking things, so I could beta test, too. Just don't give me any kiddie's computers to fix. I'll put the hard drive where the mouse is supposed to go.

| Posted 23rd December 2003 14:34 | | | LOL sounds like my family, I'm busy fixing my sisters computers so that their kids can play games this Xmas (actually I think it is more so that they can play). I am still trawling thru material at the moment to make sure i have intresting locations that haven't been covered yet but with enough familiarity so that players can get into it. Will take a while as I am still learning the code as I go along but hopefully by the end of January I should have the first chapter ready for testing. Then i think there will be about another 4-6 more chapters. The chapters will yave minium subplots to start with, just main quest elements so any ideas for sub plots will be welcome when you check out the levels. One thing i will let slip though, for one chapter you will play as a monster! heh heh heh. Should make the game intresting as you will be able to fly.

| Posted 12th January 2004 01:21 | | | Finally got all the source material and still buying more!. I have learnt so much about D&D, I wish I had learnt like this while I was at school!. I am now starting on trying to learn the C programing language as a lot of custom scripting will be needed. God help me, why did I even think of doing this, next time just shoot me. Guess it is too late now after the amount of money people have forked out helping me out to get the source books. Right the question I need answered, How much different is C+ or C++ from regular C ? All I can find in bookshops at the moment are books on those 2 and not just plain old regular C.

HELP!

| Posted 12th January 2004 03:09 | | | Hey Batman,
Does the NWN interface only support C programming, and not C+ or C++? I do not know the languages, but I have a textbook on learning C++ (the book assumes you already know C) and it states that C++ is a lot different from C in that it has more functionality. I would start by learning C - if you jump right to C++ you will probably find yourself using operators that don't exist in C (assuming NWN doesn't support C++). I'll try to get back to you with a good C tutorial soon - maybe that will help.
Edit:
You can try About.com's basic C tutorial here http://cplus.about.com/library/blctut.htm
Or a very good C/C++ tutorial at http://www.cprogramming.com
