Lionman10 Jan, 2009 11:50Russian sim genius Oleg Maddox`s IL2 Sturmovik achieved three things. Firstly it introduced us to the the Russian IL2 aircraft which had previously been almost unknown even though it was the most produced combat aircraft in WW2. Secondly it introduced the Sim community to the Russian Front as a massive and crucial theatre of the air war. Thirdly it was so good that it single handedly knocked Microsoft right out of the air combat sim market and they have never returned. It did all this by being immeasurably better researched, realistic and immersive and in the early days OIleg inisted that all his air craft were tested by real WW2 combat pilots. Sadly few are now left alive but the effects can be experienced in Sturmovik. Until Oleg brought out the even better IL2 Forgotten Battles, this was the best WW2 air combat sim ever.. Use it as training for the later versions as it is easier to fly and the flight models are less unforgiving. You MUST have a joystick however, don`t even consider flying this sim from your keyboard.
